May 28

The diet Blitz is over. I've lost 10 pounds. Hooray! I hope to lose more but I know it will not be coming off fast.

We did go to see  ' Dark Shadows ' . It was a good movie. We enjoyed it.

I was able to make my Nook Color Tablet do a triple boot. That is to say, I can make it boot normally, or boot to one of two OTHER Android operating systems. Mine are Cyanogen Mod 7 and Cyanogen Mod 9 as Ice Cream Sandwich. It's like having your desktop PC boot to Windows 7, Ubuntu or Linux Debian. CM 7 is the one I am use to, CM 9 is good for me to explore.

What's next? I may root my Panimage tablet, a Samsung Intercept cell phone, or my trusty Droid Incredible. More than likely I'll work on the DVD of our trip to Jamaica. Or I could work on modifying a boot iso file. I have a boot CD that I want to modify. It is a Secure Web Client, "Lightweight Portable Security", which boots a thin Linux operating system from a CD without mounting a local hard drive. It is from ATSPI Technology Branch; the DoD and the Air Force Research Laboratory. It is free at http://spi.dod.mil/lipose.htm. If you have suggestions on how to modify their iso; let me know.

May 12th

On the diet side, my calories have floated around 2,100 but my net calories have averaged below 1,800. Net effect is, I am loosing weight.

I gave in to letting our daughter and her hubby seed the lawns' bare spots. There are just lots of things I can't do right now and it bugs me to no end. I told my better half that she could not work in the yard today, since she abused her back so badly doing it the other day, trying to seed the lawn.

I've thought about posting a rant on how easy it is (on the inter-web) to be misunderstood; and thus being labeled as a perv (or at least, undesirable). The more I think about it, the more I think I would be misunderstood. Ironic? No?

Mothers Day:
Yes, I have something for my wife. Also, we plan to go see  ' Dark Shadows ' . Bet you didn't know I was a fan of Jonathan Frid.  More info at http://goo.gl/S0kFJHum, Dark Shadows on Mothers Day? Will I survive?

Diet Day 11

OK, this is getting tiring. I don't think I'll post every day if I have nothing to say but how many calories I've eaten. Did Thursday with only 2,133 Calories consumed.

On the down side.... Adobe just released, today, ANOTHER update for Flash Player.

Diet Day 10

I think I skipped a day some where. Oh well.

2127 Calories consumed yesterday, Wednesday.

I turned in my numbers for mid-week. We do that to help remind us to keep track. It works! Tonight is POTATO night! Hoop Yahoooo, Yippy! With a bunch more veggies.

Diet Day 7

Wow! This is the big check in and sets the tone for the next month of weight management. Now a full week into it, weigh in at class had me down 3.1 pounds compared to a week ago. Not bad, but I'd like to think that I could do better. We came home with $120 in low cal groceries.

Before class I had a complete physical at my Doctors office. Mostly all routine. Results of blood tests in a few days. Yes, I had fasted. We discussed my O2, diet (hunger pains), Radiculopathy (Hand Pain) and my Torn Meniscus (Knee Pain). Then he froze that old wart on my big toe, AGAIN, causing more (Toe Pain). To top it off, I was on the receiving end of a rectal exam. Oh BOY! He claims that he is not sadistic.

To celebrate, we had a big salad and baked potato with salsa.

Anyone have a recipe for a salad?
More tomorrow.

Diet Day 5 & 6

Dang, lost my Bluetooth. I've looked everywhere twice. I hope whoever has it has poor luck with it.

Did Friday with only 1,975 Calories consumed. Saturday came in at 2,162. I am still in the box, meeting minimum requirements (a good thing); but I just like to eat. Nuts. Oh darn, them too. But not on this diet.

My daughter scared me. I know she didn't mean to. She said she couldn't contact her brother. Boy did I worry. Everything is OK though. He just had his phone turned off.

Diet Day 4

Day 4: 1830 Calories consumed yesterday.

Today I had for lunch, a potato topped with chili and stewed tomatoes. Planning on Salad at Carlos O'Kelly's tonight. This is great, I'm on a diet!

I keep forgetting to upload some pictures, to Twitter or Flickr. I need to get busy.

Diet Day 3

Opps, forgot to post on day 2; sorry. Not much to say about it anyway. 1800 Calories consumed yesterday on day 1.

Day 3: 1900 Calories consumed yesterday. OK, for those who know, that's NOT much of a strict diet; but the food I am restricted to IS very restrictive IMHO.

I'm fine with the diet. I think I'll do OK. Cheryl thinks I won't.

I do not feel hungry much. I have no cravings, per se, though it is my habit to grab something to munch on now and again. I AM fighting that.

Check my twitter feed for other, unrelated stuff.

Gained 3.0 pounds at weigh in this AM. Slightly depressed about it all. I haven't been able to do my normal Physical Activity; walking at the mall; because my Knee it out.

Tomorrow is the start of my diet push called Blitz. The Via Christi Weight Management program  http://www.hmrprogram.com/ is rather strict.

I may use this blog to denote my progress. Or not.

Instagram stole my ID

Well, this is old news by now. I wish I didn't have so many irons in the fire.

It goes like this ...
The guy's over at Instagram, made a decent product. It became a hit on the iPhone. It was the cool, "in thing" to have. Install it, take a picture of your cat, tint it; then post it to a social network. That was cool, for about half the smartphone world. The app is really pretty good! It is a great resource for creative inspiration. Though it does lack basic editing like crop and re-size.

People like me kept crying: When will Instagram get ported to Android? When? We want to be cool too! Heck, our droids run a Google+ circle or 2+ around the iPhone. Sometimes. Hows' about some Instagram/Android love? When?

Just when we were about to give up, THERE it is! ready to download from the Android Market Play Store. Great we all say. I waited a day, expecting a server crash, Malware, Trojans and the like. No? Everything's fine. I get it, set up an account and take a picture of our cat, tint it; then post it to ... a social network?

Which social network? Oh, not much choice for me. I pick Flickr, expecting THAT to go dark soon. Once again I give out a private password to enable an app I have yet to use, so it can move 1 file. OK, it works. Do dah, do dah. OK, those aren't the droids you're looking for. Move along. Move along. Maybe I'll use this app 3 or 4 times. It could happen.

Now the kicker. a couple of days later, the news hits: Facebook buys Instagram ! :-O You see; that's the bad thing about sharing private data, like a password. Once you turn it loose, it is no longer private. Odd how Instagram did NOT get bought by Facebook until AFTER their Android app launch. Hum; $trategic thinking? More pa$$word$ per buck? I thought that Facebook spent WAY too much for Instagram.

OK, so what did I gain or loose? Gain? Not much. An app so I can play with the Ting Tang, white cord boys and girls. What did I loose? Nothing, really. Not yet. But now, Facebook has some of my PRIVATE passwords to other sites. They can access my Google account because of Instagram being on my Droid. The same with Flicker.

I should be more careful of the TRUST I put in a small startup. They could sell out, and the next owner, having LESS compassion for me, could sell again or could become really evil. Heck they could even track me as a data mine (stream) for advertizing. :-P

Why did I think they'd keep my passwords secret from (Facebook and the rest of) the evil empire?

US court starts Internet WAR.

The U.S. Magistrate Judge Honorable Susan K. Gauvey, working with ICE has seized a foreign Internet domain. This has happened before, as many as 6 or 7 HUNDERED times! These seizures COULD be seen as declarations of war by seizing foreign property. This recent seizure was for the domain name bodog.com , a gambling site based in Canada. So far as I know, the US did not attempt to pursue the matter in Canadian courts.
“ICE only goes after websites whose Top-level domain is located within the U.S., such as .com or .net. This makes sense for more than just jurisdiction - .com and .net are established and often more trusted Top-level domains, and the risk of consumers confusing the counterfeit site with a legitimate storefront would probably be higher.” according to Erik Barnett from ICE. Actually, ICE is using Top-level domain REGISTRARS to close sites. The registrar is located in the U.S.
What about the on-going legitimate businesses? For quite some time the gaming company behind bodog has mainly relied on bodog.eu, and more recently has been offering a different domain called Bovada.lv for US-based players. So it looks like although ICE still pushes it’s weight around, they are a day late, and we a few dollars short.

My Leo Laporte RANT...

[This is a STUB. I've run out of time to think about this; it makes me mad anyhow. Now I need to get on with life so here is what I have...]

After listening to Leo Laporte RANT ON AND ON about cookies on Security Now with Steve Gibson (Episode #342) and on TWiG (#136), I thought I should write a blog post about how Leo has sold out.

Not only is he a broadcaster (think about it), who does NOT listen to his audience (I have found NO WAY for me to send an email to him). And he is no longer an open source entrepreneur geek, if he even ever was one. Now he is only interested in making money, he has SOLD OUT to big money.

Postage Stamp Petition:

"The nation has an opportunity to honor a truly exemplary accomplishment of humankind in general, and the US space program in particular with a new US postage stamp in 2015 honoring the flyby and reconnaissance of the Pluto system by NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft."

Storm Chasers:

So I figured out the twitter list my daughter kept trying to send me. It is called "storms" and is a public list by her that she calls "Armchair storm chasing". (De Brevitate Vitae)

Words I like:

Gina Trapani’s immortal words: "I am a full on capitalist, I have apps in the app store, I charge money. I use to be a hippy, commie, now I’m a complete capitalist, so I’m all for it; buy Jeff’s book" (Jeff Jarvis author of Public Parts).

Not to recent high lights:
